STATEMENT: GoVoteTexas.Org Now Available in Texas’ Top 3rd, 4th, and 7th Languages — Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi
No One Else Comes Close in Expanding Language Access to the Polls
The Deadline to Register for the November Election is 20 Days Away, on Oct. 7
TEXAS – On this National Voter Registration Day, Progress Texas published all-new translations to our user-friendly and empowering voter navigation website, GoVoteTexas.org — now available in Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, English, and Spanish — increasing access for more than 8 million potential voters this highest-stakes election year.
The Asian American and Pacific Islander community are the fastest-growing ethnic group in the United States - but in Texas politics, they are ignored at best, and demonized at worst. Last year, Asian Texans for Justice commissioned their first statewide poll of AAPI voters. A majority (64%) reported being highly motivated to vote in the 2022 midterm elections. Nearly half of all respondents said there are not enough language access resources. Since millions of eligible Texas voters didn’t make it to the polls in 2020, we’re building the infrastructure necessary to reach them.
“We can feel the enthusiasm growing about voting in November, but too many first and second generation Americans are still facing voter suppression and intimidation,” said Advocacy Associate Tatum Owens. “We cannot leave their voices behind.”
“Progress Texas is the only organization currently filling the Texas Secretary of State's language gap by adding three new languages to our essential resource, because we know increasing ballot and registration language access correlates to higher voter turnout, especially in these vote-deciding communities,” said Executive Director Kathleen Thompson.
