Today marks the beginning of a three day conference of the Texas State Board of Education in Austin. The quarterly meet ups set policies and standards for Texas public schools. That includes curriculum, adopting instructional materials, establishing graduation requirements, and managing the permanent school fund.
As the SBOE is one of our lesser known state elected bodies, we brought you District 3 State Board of Education Member, Marisa Perez-Diaz, the most senior Democrat, who represents San Antonio and South Texas, to give us an insider’s view of the most important matters on the agenda. We’re also joined by friend and ally Rocio Fierro Perez, Political Director with the Texas Freedom Network, who shares context to the ongoing fights safeguarding separations between church and state and vital funds that support our neighborhood schools.
