In May, the Texas House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton. Today, a similar majority in the Senate denies dismissal motions.

TEXAS – Texas’ attorney general will proceed to impeachment trial after an overwhelming majority of Texas State Senators voted against Ken Paxton’s motions to dismiss and exclude mountains of evidence against him. Twelve of his fellow Republicans joined all Democrats to move forward.

The near 20 articles of impeachment include abuse of office, bribery, dereliction of duty, and obstruction of justice.

“Progressives are closely watching the Ken Paxton impeachment trial. General Paxton has earned every article, after years of entangling his office in fraud, corruption, and scandal,” said Kathleen Thompson, executive director at Progress Texas. “We stand with all Texans who believe no one is above the law—not even Texas’ top cop.”
