Communications Internship

Progress Texas is seeking a communications intern to join our team for the spring 2020 semester.

This is a great opportunity to work with one of the most well-known progressive organizations in Texas as we lead up to the 2020 election. 
 

Who We Are

Progress Texas is a non-profit media organization working to promote progressive values in our state. For almost 10 years we have been the leading progressive voice in Texas media that stands up for the left, fights the right, and advocates for issues important to a growing number of people in our state. 

Last year our team generated 40 million online impressions, more than 500 print and broadcast news stories, and we’d like you to help us continue to amplify the progressive message in 2020 and beyond. Learn more on our Who We Are page, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
 

Duties

  • Track news coverage relating to Progress Texas issue silos and Texas politics

  • Pull media clips for Progress Texas as needed

  • Help maintain press contacts lists 

  • Research and write original blog posts on Progress Texas issue silos and political news

  • Assist with drafting social media content, including photos and videos 

  • Assisting with graphic creation

  • Help carry out rapid response communications and digital grassroots engagement around breaking news
     

Compensation & Time Commitment   

Interns will receive $15 per hour, with a flexible work schedule of 15 hours per week. A transportation stipend may be available. 

Spring 2020 internship will begin mid-February and run through the end of the semester in May. Dates are flexible. 
 

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Committed to progressive issues and ideals

  • Creative and willing to push the envelope

  • Excellent at verbal and written communication

  • Organized and detail-oriented in a fast-paced work environment

  • Have knowledge of digital platforms, including social media channels

  • Hardworking, able to take charge of independent projects, and confident enough to proactively contribute to team issue campaigns
