A state district judge threw out another technicality argument from Rick Perry’s high-priced legal team today, clearing the way for the case to proceed in court. Back in November, the judge threw out the first technicality argument made by Perry’s legal team.

Rick Perry, who initially billed taxpayers more than $100,000 for his private legal bills, has so far spent $1 million on a legal team that has been unsuccessful in getting the case thrown out.

Progress Texas Executive Director Edward Espinoza released the following statement on today’s ruling:

"In upholding the indictment related to abuse of power and bribery, a Judge's message is clear: Rick Perry might be out of the governor's mansion, but he's still in hot water."

"The only amount of money that could have got Rick Perry out of this mess was the $15 million he used to try and force a local official's resignation. Now he has to own up to his actions, because no politician is above the law."

This wasn't the first case of public officials getting caught with DUI's during Perry's tenure, but it is the only time he threatened punitive measures. Maybe because all of the other cases involved Republicans.
