Rick Perry Attends Secret Meeting With Koch Brothers
With Sine Die on the horizon, Rick Perry left for Vail, Colorado to meet with the infamous Koch brothers. Jason Embry broke the story by tracking the tail number of a private plane Perry has been known to take for political purposes.
Why did Perry go to Vail, Colorado to meet with two of the largest conservative donors in the country? Because they are also one of Rick Perry's largest donors as well and Perry wanted more money for other political endeavors.
According to Politico , Perry also asked the Koch brothers to give to the Republican Governors Association and help spread the conservative message in all 50 states.
What exactly do the Koch brothers believe? Firedog Lake has a video highlighting the Koch brothers anti-environment, anti-worker, anti-healthcare, anti-immigrant and anti-homeowner beliefs.
The highlights include:
The Koch brothers have spent more that $34 million on groups and organizations that work against workers rights. Koch organizations have targeted key union efforts, such as fighting against public sector union pay raises, and arguing against unions having any political or organizing power.
The Kochs financed the tea party’s fight against health care reform through their tea party group, Americans for Prosperity.
The Koch Brothers have funded anti-immigration legislation through the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC is a conservative group that writes policies and offers them to state legislatures throughout the country for use. ALEC has been involved in a wide range of anti-immigration work, including Arizona’s SB1070, which requires anyone thought to be an immigrant to produce paperwork.
Their politics are particularly concerning if you are being hurt by rising gas prices. ThinkProgress has released a report showing how the Koch brothers are making millions speculating on oil to the determent of the working class who are being hit hard by rising fuel costs.
We agree with our Colorado colleagues when Kjersten Forseth said, "The billionaire Koch brothers are leading funders of the Tea Party, and the countless unnamed groups who appear on TV every election spreading misinformation. Their agenda is simple: they want to dismantle Medicare and Social Security, cut education and every other source of public funding beneficial to America's middle class, while giving the wealthy and big corporations even more tax breaks."
The Koch brothers do not represent Texas values. Maybe that is why Rick Perry and other conservatives across the state tried to meet with them in secret in Vail.
