Rep Canseco Calls Planned Parenthood A “Front For Mass Murder”

On Monday night at a town hall meeting in Fair Oaks Ranch outside of San Antonio, Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco, who represents Texas' 23rd district, called Planned Parenthood a "front for mass murder" that "needs to be abolished."

These disgusting statements from the Congressman come the same week that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has announced that it will stop funding Planned Parenthood’s lifesaving breast cancer screenings because of pressure from anti-choice extremists.

Conservatives like Congressman Canseco are not hiding their agenda. They are openly saying it in public - they want Planned Parenthood closed and they don't care how many millions of women will lose affordable life saving healthcare resources as a result. Planned Parenthood is often the only provider of health care services for low-income women.

Today, Ezra Klein of the Washington Post broke down what Planned Parenthood actually does:

Abortion services account for about 3 percent of Planned Parenthood’s activities. That’s less than cancer screening and prevention (16 percent), STD testing for both men and women (35 percent), and contraception (also 35 percent). About 80 percent of Planned Parenthood’s users are over age 20, and 75 percent have incomes below 150 percent of the poverty line. Planned Parenthood itself estimates it prevents more than 620,000 unintended pregnancies each year, and 220,000 abortions. It’s also worth noting that federal law already forbids Planned Parenthood from using the funds it receives from the government for abortions. (Source: Washington Post)

Congressman Canseco and his fellow Tea Party conservatives in Washington who are obsessed with "abolishing" Planned Parenthood should take a few moments to read the stories of the thousands upon thousands of women whose lives were saved or changed by the affordable health care services, like cancer screenings, provided by Planned Parenthood. http://plannedparenthoodsavedme.tumblr.com/
