THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING!

This Friday we are going to premiere The Muslims Are Coming! It’s a docu-comedy that follows a group of Muslim-American comedians as they travel around the country to do shows, meet locals, and do their solidest to get rid of the super annoying and entirely awful Islamophobia.

The hating on Muslims isn’t knew, its been around since people realized that there were differences between people and they could market is as a political wedge tool. So, basically forever. It spiked with things like the Iran hostage crisis, 9/11, and the building of the mosque near ground zero. With every spike in Islamophobia, it seems to take on new dimensions – more violent dimensions. In the last few years we’ve seen vandalism and arson at mosques, kids getting beaten up, attacks on Sikhs that are meant for Muslims, and the list goes on. It’s been bad. The media doesn’t help because the only thing we see about Muslims is that they’re dour dusty people roaming the deserts making evil plans for global domination.

That’s when we realized that we have to counter this image – that we have to show the world that Muslims can be fluffy and adorable, smart and fun, silly and ridiculous. Basically, normal. Americans don’t get to see this side of the Muzzies so we took it upon ourselves to show it – through comedy, through interaction, through run of the mill exposure.

In making the movie we also got some ridiculously notable people talk about all things Muz – people like The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, Rachel Maddow, Lewis Black, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Colin Quinn. And if those pop culture icons aren’t enough for you (man! you have an insane standard for icons) then we also have some broadcast journalist-type heavyweights like CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and Ali Velshi, The Young Turk’s Cenk Uygur, and hip hop entrepreneur (slash interfaith activist) Russell Simmons. Yeah, we weren’t messing around. These are some awesome people.

So if you are in the movie-going way and a reasonable or unreasonable distance from Austin, please come to the WORLD PREMIERE of this film. We think its important and we would love for you to join us and help spread the word. And you’ll have fun, I guarantee you’ve never laughed this hard at a Muslim.
